Martha Anne Guice Wingate was born on September 4, 1943, in Savannah, Georgia. She married Francis H. Webb on December 31, 1962. They have three children. She was divorced in February 1984. On May 25, 1985, she married T. Russell Wingate, a poet. Wingate received a B.S. from Texas A&I University in 1967, and a M.A. from Texas Woman's University in 1981.
